Meet Abilities First

At Abilities First, we are dedicated to ensuring that people with developmental disabilities can experience belonging where they live, learn, work, and play. We believe our community is better when everyone who is part of it has a part in it.

Our Mission

All people with disabilities live the life they choose.

In 1978, the citizens of Greene County voted to levy a property tax to support services for people with developmental disabilities. The funds are administered by the Board of Directors of Abilities First through grant funding of local non-profit agencies and public entities, providing direct support services for:

  • Early intervention
  • Residential services
  • Independent living assistance
  • Transportation

Our Team

Our team is collaborative, supportive, and passionate about making a lasting impact. We celebrate diverse perspectives and encourage innovation, always working together to create spaces where people with developmental disabilities are not only included, but welcomed, valued, and supported.

Together, the Abilities First Board of Directors, the Executive Team, and 501(c)(3) fundraising partner Friends of Abilities First bring a wealth of experience and passion to support the agency’s mission.

Here, Everyone Matters

At Abilities First, our culture is rooted in respect, compassion, and a deep commitment to inclusion and belonging, for the people we serve and for the people who make our mission possible. We believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to live, love, learn, work, and play in their community, and we reflect those values in everything we do.

Our OATH

We don’t just talk about our values, we live them as an O.A.T.H., in every interaction, every decision, and every partnership. This translates to a genuine culture of belonging and inclusion, a mission-driven team that leads with heart and purpose, opportunities to grow personally and professionally, and deep, meaningful connections with the people and communities we serve.
